Laramie came to Woodlawn Baptist Church in March 2011. He previously served as Minister of Music and Youth at Bethel Baptist Church in Water Valley, MS for five years and as Worship Pastor at Colyell Baptist Church in Livingston, LA for three years. He studied music at Northwest Mississippi Community College and the University of Mississippi, completing a Bachelor of Arts in Music (Voice) at Leavell College of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, as well as a Master of Music in Church Music (Conducting) from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Laramie and his wife Angela met at the University of Mississippi. They have two precious children: Addison and Will.
Laramie has a strong passion for Word-driven music in the gathered worship of the church. In regards to music in worship, he says, “For some time now it has become common to see priority placed on styles and performance and not on solid theological content. Many of us (leaders of music in worship) have exchanged the worship of God for the entertainment of the congregants. That is not to say that performance and style are not important, but that they are secondary to the text and should be used as tools in which to communicate that text. My ministry objective is to assist in the discipleship of the local church and to lead it in Word-driven worship (not limited to music) so that God would be glorified.”
His interests include sports (especially baseball and golf), sushi, cooking, and music (of course).
Pastor of Discipleship and Missions
Kyle and Rachel Sullivan have been married for ten years. God has blessed them with two children, Drew (4) and Ava (2). Kyle surrendered his life to Christ the day before he began his freshman year of college at the University of Kentucky. Several months later while on a mission trip to Haiti, he realized God’s call on his life to serve in vocational ministry. Kyle then transferred to Clear Creek Baptist Bible College where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Pastoral Ministry in 2006. Following that, he received his Advanced Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2010. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Evangelism and Church Growth from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. For nearly fifteen years, Kyle has served churches in Kentucky, Texas and now Louisiana. Kyle desires for all nations to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ and for every member at WBC to "grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ" (2 Peter 3:18).
Kyle’s philosophy of ministry is shaped by several key passages of Scripture. Since both salvation (Romans 10:17, II Timothy 3:15) and discipleship (II Timothy 3:16-17) occur only through the Word of God, Kyle is convinced that His ministry must be Word-centered in all areas. Kyle is also convinced that his ministry must be Christ-centered in all areas because the Scriptures testify of Christ in all places (Luke 24:27, John 5:39). Finally, Kyle believes that his ministry must be an equipping ministry (Ephesians 4:11-16). In his ministry of discipleship, this means equipping church members to do the work of ministry (Eph 4:12). In his missions ministry, this means equipping the body of Christ to be on mission with Him.
His hobbies include sports, reading, traveling, dating his wife and spending time with his family.
